LOCATION: Lienz is a pretty medieval town in the Austrian state of Tyrol. It is set between the Hohe Tauern mountain range in the north and the Gailtaler Alps in the south. There are some excellent small and mid-size ski resorts ideal for families. In Lienz itself you will find the Zetterfeld-Hochstein area with 37km of slopes. Whilst Zettersfeld is ideal for families, Hochstein will challenge advanced and expert skiers and snowboarders. In close vicinity other ski resorts also offer a great day of winter fun including Grossglockner Kals-Matrei (39km of pistes) or Hochpustertal (21km of pistes). Numerous hiking trails lead over the ridges to the most varied destinations, such as the striking Lienz Dolomites. In summer you can relax at the natural lake Tristacher See or at Weißensee in Carinthia with crystal clear water and bath-friendly temperatures.
