Resort Overview

Despite its great appeal, the Pillersee Valley is a less known area of the Kitzbueheler Alps to foreign visitors. More famous neighbours, including the glitzy Kiztbuehel or the party-town Saalbach, get most of the visitor traffic. Given the many great attributes of this area, this will probably not last. Skiing conditions are impeccable: access to 3 different ski areas with a second to none variety of slopes and panoramas, superb infrastructure and snow assuredness with the PillerseeTal being officially recognised as the snowiest region of the Kitzbüheler Alpen and beyond the snowiest region of the Tyrol.

Winter Season & Ski

Whilst Saalbach and Hinterglemm are the most well-known resorts in the area, basing yourself in Fieberbrunn or one of the other towns in the Pillersee Valley actually gives you access to more skiing options. In total, there are 3 skiing areas in the Pillersee Valley: the Skicircus Saalbach-Hinterglemm-Leogang-Fieberbrunn with 270km of slopes, the Steinplatte/Waidring ski area with 40km of slopes and finally the Buchensteinwand offering 22km of skiing terrain. The variety-packed pistes and state-of-the-art lifts are really what set these ski areas apart. PillerseeTal is one of the top cross-country venues in Austria with a great network of perfectly prepared trails for all styles and amazing mountainous backdrop. Cross-country skiers have access to eighteen cross-country trails in different levels of difficulty. Non-skiers are also very well catered for as there are over 100km of lovely hiking trails. Families will appreciate the 4 illuminated toboggan runs as well as the two ice skating arenas in Waidring and St. Ulrich am Pillersee. Fieberbrunn, on the other hand, is a major hub for freestylers. In February 2019, some of the world’s best freeriders will gather in Fieberbrunn for the Freeride World Tour - they will climb to the summit of the Wildseeloder and then tackle the downhill run from the 2118 metres down into the 620 metres altitude slope.

Summer Season

The Pillerseee Valley is the perfect setting for an active summer holiday with a wide choice of activities on offer from hiking, cycling to golf and swimming. The possibilities are really unlimited - over 1,000km of mountain bike routes and roads and 1,500km of hiking trails, 9 courses within 50km radius and many natural lakes, some with healing powers. You can choose between the PillerseeTal Card and the Kitbzuehel Alpen Card which each provide access to many local attractions, mountain lifts and other benefits. If you are looking for something special to do with your kids, why not try the Erlebnispark Familienland in St. Jakob in Haus with its pirate ship, the wild raft or the “Bing Bang” rollercoaster, the highest one in Austria. The “Timok’s Coaster” is also not to be missed.

Food Scene

The PillerseeTal is a real gourmet region and its cuisine is tasty and versatile. You will find here many traditional dishes, but also international sophisticated specialties. And there is an array of restaurants, mountain huts and bakeries to keep every hungry visitor happy.
