Rauris Guide
Originally a goldmining village, Rauris is an off-the-beaten path peaceful idyllic alpine resort. With its 32 km of pistes, it a relatively small ski centre, yet within a short driving distance to larger resorts such as Gastein or Zell am See. It offers spectacular scenery to summer sport fans as well. In terms of ski property, there are some great ski chalets for sale with an affordable price tag.

Resort Overview
Located in the Salzburgerland, the Rauris Valley is a picturesque and peaceful area of about 30km extending from Taxenbach, via Rauris to the mighty mountain of Kolm Saigurn. Despite an easy connection to Salzburg and proximity to other more famous ski resorts such as Bad Gastein or Zell am See, the area remains largely unknown to international visitors and has retained its rural rustic charms and traditions and is a lovely base for both winter and summer holidays with a superb choice of recreational sports and cultural activities on offer. New holiday apartments and villas developments are underway and Rauris could be the ideal first Austrian property investment given its up-and-coming character.
Winter Season & Ski
The ski area in Rauris is relatively compact and covers about 32km of well-maintained pistes with a good mix of difficult and more gentle slopes, mostly treeless and north-east facing. Rauris falls under the Ski Amade skipass, so once you covered the local ski area, you can easily access the nearby larger resorts for some more ski and snowboarding fun. There is also a free ski bus between Rauris, Wörth, Hochalmbahn and Kreuzbodenbahn lifts, as well as between Taxenbach and Rauris. Children are well catered for as well with plenty of easy baby hills, play areas, including the 700m-long fun slope with tunnels, waves and banked turns, and night tobogganing on the floodlit runs. Over 30km of perfectly prepared cross-country trails will let you marvel at the beautiful nature backdrop at your pace. Apres-ski scene is more quiet compared to some other Austrian resorts, but there are still numerous sunny spots to kick back and enjoy a drink or two.
Summer Season
Lying in the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park, Rauris is a great base for an active summer holiday with countless possibilities to hike, bike and enjoy some other fun adventures. All this against the stunning mountainous backdrop and amidst some wild flora and fauna so don’t be surprised when you spot some golden eagles, birds of prey or an ibex on your way, this is real unspoilt territory. There are plenty of places with enormous natural, historic and cultural power including the Rauriser UrQuell where the Rauris water springs from deep within the Earth, the Kitzloch Gorge or the Rauris Valley Museum where you can learn about the goldmining history of the area. Children will have fun panning their own golden flakes at the three gold-panning sites in the valley.
Food Scene
The Rauris Valley is the home of genuine simple rustic meals such as the Feischkraften meat pasties, doughnuts or parsley potatoes. Mountain huts are open year-round and it is a pure joy to snack on one of these traditional snacks on their sun terraces. For something different, visit Kalchkendlalm and bake your own sourdough bread at one of the bread making courses on offer.
